Jerry Rice is the greatest wide receiver to ever play the game. He perhaps is the best football player to ever set foot in the NFL. It is without an argument that no one at the wide receiver position could hold a candle to number 80. Rice had two Hall of Fame quarterbacks throwing him the ball in Joe Montana and Steve Young. He caught the clutch pass, he could beat cornerbacks deep, and he could even beat a team with his feet. Rice did it all. By doing it all, he amassed most career receptions with 1,549 and caught the ball for most receiving yards than anyone in the history of the league with 22,895 yards. Rice also holds the record for the most touchdowns in a career with 208. Rice historic career spanned 20 seasons and with three different teams, San Francisco 49ers from 1985 to 2000, Oakland Raiders from 2001 to 2004, and Seattle Seahawks in 2004. He won three Super Bowls to go along with such great numbers. Rice is the benchmark to every great receiver will be compared.
Emmitt Smith is arguably the best running back to ever the play the game. He played for 15 seasons for two different teams. Emmitt will forever be remembered as a Cowboy, the team he played for from 1990 to 2002. His final seasons were spent as Arizona Cardinal from 2003 to 2004. Smith set the standard for rushing yardage gained in a career with 18,355. Over 18,000 rushing yardage in a career, it is a record that may never be broken. He is second in the history of NFL for the most touchdowns scored in a career behind only Jerry Rice with 175 touchdowns. He to was able to win three Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys.
The feats of Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith are endless and could be a few post easily. They are very deserving of their Induction in the NFL Hall of Fame as well as the other 5 great players that will be inducted along with them.
Russ Grimm opened many holes for the running backs of the Washington Redskins to run through. He was part of an offensive line nicknamed the Hogs. Rickey Jackson and John Randle terrorized quarterbacks. Dick LeBeau was not a defensive mastermind on the sideline but he was a defensive back that would pick off opposing receivers.
Floyd Little had a long wait for his induction but now he is in the Hall of Fame and no once can take that away from him.
